Insider Tip for Keeping Friends

I have a tip for you: Find younger friends.

My wife and I attended another memorial service yesterday. How many does that make for this year? Far, far too many!

8 or 9 years ago when my wife and I developed a class called “The New 3Rs of Retirement” we told people to get younger friends. We based that notion on statistics. The older you get the number of people around you your age decreases. Six years ago for example I found out at my HS class’s 50th anniversary that 25% our class had already died. Sobering thought.

Today? I don’t have to count on statistics. I can watch my acquaintances disappear.

My wife and I’ve been proactive. I have friends in a Toastmasters club and my wife has friends in a swim group both of which are largely made up of people younger than we are. We also picked a Sunday School class where we are about the median age. We’re busy finding and cultivating friendships with younger people. Follow our lead and discover the fun of having younger friends.

How is that working out for you? Tell me about your younger friends.
